RENAISSANCE FOR EUROPE
Europe is facing a crisis today and it is up to the European Left to propose common solutions. This initiative called "Rebirth for Europe for a common progressive vision" launched by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, Fondation Jean-Jaurès, Fondazione Italianieuropei and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung will accompany three electoral campaigns in France, Germany and Italy for eighteen months.
As described by Massimo D'Alema, President of FEPS, these three elections can "change the face of Europe", since these are three of the founding States of the European Union totalling 200 million Europeans out of the 330 million in the euro zone today.
The timetable has already been officially set for France, where the first event took place in Paris on 16 and 17 March, one month before the first round of the presidential elections.
On Friday, a round table seminar at the National Assembly grouped two workshops of experts recognized and recommended by the scientific committees of the organizing foundations. The two themes retained were "A Europe of growth and solidarity" and " Democratic Europe". Discussions will close with a common declaration for the construction of a political, economic, social and ecological alternative for the European Union.
The results of the seminar were presented on Saturday during a public meeting at the Cirque d'Hiver where high-level European political leaders were united around François Hollande, candidate of the Parti Socialiste for the French presidential elections.
